Julia joined Ashong Benjamin and Associates with an established academic career, policy development and legal practice in the UK and Ghana. She is an experienced advocate, known to present and negotiate with confidence.
In the UK, her experience includes advisory work at the Attorney General’s Office, where she was involved in various legal matters, including inquests, national security and terrorism. In her short stint in private practice at Essex Court Chambers, Julia worked on UK/EU aviation, competition, shipping, public international, media, and entertainment law cases.
In Ghana, Julia’s practice has focused on advisory and litigation (trial and appellate) of commercial, criminal, employment, family, and regulatory matters. She has recently expanded her practice to include large infrastructure projects such as data centres and power plants, as well as energy and natural resources law.
Julia has advocated, researched, and advised pro bono in public interest cases involving citizens on death row, human rights violations, and international law. She has also assisted in cases before the European Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
As an academic, Julia has taught Law at King’s College London and Oxford University and helped establish the Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Coast, where she is also a Senior Lecturer. In August of 2022, Julia was appointed Dean of the Faculty in recognition of her immense contributions and depth of experience.
She has published in reputable academic journals such as the Air and Space Law Journal and the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law.
