BIOGRAPHY

David is a founding partner of Ashong Benjamin and Associates and brings extensive legal, investment, and corporate banking experience to a career spanning 33 years. During this time, he has been lauded not only as a world-class lawyer, but as a pioneering banker focused on growth and development of capital and corporate finance markets, and the banking industry in Ghana.

At the inception of activities on the Ghana Stock Exchange in 1992, he played a leading-edge role in the development of the local capital market. This includes the implementation of the Exchange’s first renounceable rights issue, and the first cross-border listing of Ashanti Goldfields Company in 1994.

On secondment to Home Finance Company (now Republic Bank) as Legal Advisor, David was involved in the set-up of the company, and in the initiation and development of the securitised mortgage concept in Ghana.

David was one of the founders of First Atlantic Bank Limited in 1994, where he built an extensive range of relationships within the Ghanaian business community, and gained a profound appreciation of the issues affecting corporate Ghana.

On leaving the banking field in 2012, David has been involved in private practice and has continued to focus on corporate law, providing advice to a range of corporations. His practice places an emphasis on due diligence in corporate finance issues, including advice on onward bound investments, and the structuring of investments by and on behalf of private equity funds and other investors. He also provides advice and representation to companies within the oil and gas sector, and has been involved in key negotiations relating to petroleum agreements in Ghana.
