BIOGRAPHY

As the managing partner of Ashong Benjamin and Associates, Tawia is responsible for the overall direction of the firm’s strategy and operations. She brings charm, pragmatism, and dedication to maintaining a reputable multifaceted practice.

With a keen legal mind and a career spanning over three decades, Tawia has garnered immense experience in employment, anti-corruption, corporate governance, and estate planning law, as well as stakeholder management.

She has participated in notable mining projects and transactions; advising inter alia on licensing and regulatory issues, and drafting and negotiating agreements for the mining sector. 

She has done a significant amount of work in the development of anti-corruption programs for corporations, which comply with the UK Bribery Act, the FCPA, and the Ghanaian laws on corruption.

Prior to co-founding Ashong Benjamin, she was the Director for Legal and Government Relations at Newmont Ghana Gold Limited from 2007 to 2014. In that role, she led the development of strategies for establishing and maintaining positive relations with the Ghanaian government and other relevant stakeholders.

Tawia’s journey in the provision of legal advice and services started at Sey and Co Law Office in 1989. She then moved to Integrity Financial Services in 1994, and later assumed the roles of Manager for Legal Services at Deloitte and Touche, and Managing Director of Dehands Services. After heading the legal department of SIC Company Limited in 2007, she moved on to Newmont Ghana Gold Limited.

Outside of her legal duties at Ashong Benjamin and Associates, Tawia also serves on the boards of Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited and New Horizon Special School.
